As Head of Design at OpenAI, he grew the design studio into a 45-strong team of specialists across design, creative, engineering, and production. His team oversees the entire OpenAI ecosystem — from brand identities to the user experience and content of openai.com, as well as live events. He works closely with the ChatGPT, API, and research teams, leading all product [1] [2] [3] [4] and research [5] [6] [7] launches. Most recently, he led the OpenAI brand refresh [8] [9] , the introduction of Codex [10], and ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode design [11].
Prior to OpenAI, he was at Meta, creating WhatsApp’s first brand identity [12] and reigniting brand love for Instagram [13]. Earlier, he spent five years as the Executive Creative Director at Mercedes-Benz’s global agency, leading design, art direction [14], interactive, and branded entertainment [15] — reshaping the automaker’s image for a new generation [16] [17] .
Veit has created work for a diverse range of clients, including Rimowa, Sony, Google Pixel and adidas. He has been recognized with multiple awards from all major shows, such as D&AD, One Show, ADC, and Cannes Lions. Originally from Berlin, he is now based in San Francisco, California.
